Urgent Crisis: Puerto Rico Hurricane & Earthquake Emergency Assistance Project
Communities that never recovered after the hurricanes are now facing much more dire conditions as a result of the January 6.4 magnitude earthquake. Within just 30 days of that event, Puerto Rico has endured over 2,400 earthquakes and the aftershocks continue.
People are afraid to sleep in their houses, sleeping in their cars or on chairs in their lawns, and many are fleeing the island to the mainland and abandoning their animals. There is a lack of clean drinking water, basic human hygiene supplies, food, and shelter. Animals additionally suffer from lack of these needs.

Background
Since Hurricane Maria struck in September 2017, Global United Foundation (GUF) has been involved with the communities of Yauco and Guayanilla, in southern Puerto Rico. Our volunteers have been working and collaborating with partnering organizations who are rescuing dogs, fostering and providing transportation to the Northern states. Many of these animals were abandoned as a result of the catastrophe, which has exacerbated the urgent need for support. GUF has been paying for medical expenses and providing care for animals in foster or transit.
But there is still so much work to be done:
- Improving human health by improving animal health
- Helping domestic pets and providing them with care, food and medical attention
- Community education on how to better care for their pets
- Helping the stray animal population with a spay and neuter campaign
- Saving stray dogs and relocating them to new loving families in the States
Special Team Members
We couldn't do what we do without support and we have two special team members who are dedicated to helping us save as many dogs in Puerto Rico as possible.

Mindy Dutka - Dogs I Meet
Mindy believes every dog has a tale and she spends her time honoring family dogs, capturing invincible bonds and inspiring animal advocacy through her camera lens.

OUR MISSION
Global United Foundation assists in education to people, and communities in pet safety, health and first aid.
We provide education directly or in collaboration with other organizations and or educators.
We provide aid and assistance during or after catastrophic events.
We provide assistance in forms of direct actions, co-fundraising with other organizations that are already active in emergency relief around the globe.

FOUNDATION PARTNERSHIPS & COLLABORATIONS
Our volunteers have participated in the establishment of spay & neuter and medical clinics on a global scale.
This global reach has allowed us to understand the needs of communities around the world, and to take direct action, establish relationships with top international veterinarians, and generate ideas for our creation of own facility.

WORLDWIDE EMERGENCY & DISASTER FUNDRAISING RELIEF
We have fund raised thousands of dollars for assistance to community and animal crisis relief after the Fukushima tsunami, Hurricane Harvey, and Hurricanes Maria and Irma.
