URGENT CRISIS: COLUMBIA ANIMAL RELIEF EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE PROJECT
Santuario Amigo Fiel “Faithful Friend Sanctuary,” is located in Cartagena Columbia, founded in 2011 by Cecilia an avid animal lover, who devotes her time and energy toward humanitarian efforts centered around homeless dogs and cats. Cecilias mission is to dedicate herself full-time to rescuing and protecting the city’s stray animals.
Santuario Amigo Fiel is Situated on 7,000 square meters (1.7 acres) Cecilia built the shelters from the ground up to provide the animals with a safe space.
Since then, Cecilia has saved thousands of animals. In the long-term, she aims to find the right partners to help her find good homes for the animals she rescues, where they will be provided the same love and respect she gives them.
Today, Sanctuario Amigo Fiel is home to 244 dogs, 138 cats, these animals are given24/7 care.

We believe in full transparency and will be giving any funds donated directly to food vendors to feed the dogs and cats of Refugio Amigo Fiel. Ultimately, every dog rescued by the Refugio saves a potential 12,000 future street dogs!
Even if you can’t donate, you can share Cecilia’s story to create greater awareness of Refugio Mi Amigo Fiel and all the great work they are doing for the stray population of Cartagena. OUR MISSION
Cartagena itself is home to roughly 400,000 street animals, a number which is as hard to pin down as it is to stabilize. Staggering statistics suggest that 1 intact dog can create roughly 12,000 offspring over the course of their reproductive years. Unlike most major US cities, Cartagena doesn’t have public policy in place to protect animals, or municipal shelters to care for lost or abandoned pets.
That means that not only is there nowhere for homeless animals to go, but there’s also no one responsible for vetting the animals. Cecilia has taken it upon herself not only to provide dignified lives for all the animals that come her way, but also to make a point of educating the community on the value of stray sterilization.
Currently, all funds to keep Santuario Amigo Fiel running come directly from Cecilia and the occasional donations she receives from friends and family. They are in dire need of funding and donations to underwrite their expenses and feed these animals.
That’s where we come in. Global United Foundation is a 501c organization that assists in education to people and communities in pet safety, health, and first aid. We provide: education directly or in collaboration with other organizations and/or educators, aid during or after catastrophic events, and assistance in forms of direct actions such as co-fundraising with other organizations that are already active in emergency relief around the globe. When Global United Foundation board member, Mindy Dutka, had the chance opportunity to meet Cecilia and some of the Refugio’s pups, she was blown away by Cecilia’s dedication. Her abundant love and care for every animal she rescues is evident in how sweet and friendly the dogs are. Our goal is to raise $50,000 to cover the costs of food for the animals of Santuario Amigo Fiel for a year.
On a daily, Santuario amigo fiel uses 4 bags of Dog food and 3 bags of cat food.

PUERTO RICO RELIEF PROJECT
Communities that never recovered after the hurricanes were facing much more dire conditions as a result of the 6.4 magnitude earthquake. Within just 30 days of that event, Puerto Rico endured over 2,400 earthquakes and the aftershocks continued.
People were afraid to sleep in their houses, sleeping in their cars or on chairs on their lawns, and many were fleeing the island to the mainland and abandoning their animals. There is a lack of clean drinking water, basic human hygiene supplies, food, and shelter. Animals additionally suffered from lack of these needs.
BACKGROUND
Since Hurricane Maria struck in September 2017, Global United Foundation (GUF) has been involved with the communities of Yauco and Guayanilla, in southern Puerto Rico. Our volunteers have been working and collaborating with partnering organizations who are rescuing dogs, fostering and providing transportation to the Northern states. Many of these animals were abandoned as a result of the catastrophe, which has exacerbated the urgent need for support. GUF has been paying for medical expenses and providing care for animals in foster or transit.
We continue to work on:
- Improving human health by improving animal health
- Helping domestic pets and providing them with care, food and medical attention
- Community education on how to better care for their pets
- Helping the stray animal population with a spay and neuter campaign
- Saving stray dogs and relocating them to new loving families in the States
We continue to need your help for Puerto Rico!
